Opportunities
Fire District #6 accepts volunteers in the following roles:
- Volunteer Firefighter/EMT Responders (may live outside or within the geographical borders of Fire District #6)
- Volunteer Suppression Support (Rehab) Responders
- Volunteer Tender Driver/Operator Responders
Volunteer Responders are scheduled on a shift assignment (6 shifts/month) and work under the supervision of the on-duty Lieutenant. Volunteer Responders are issued Fire Station wear and all the required PPE to perform their duties and responsibilities.
Being a volunteer requires a commitment of your time to train and to serve on emergencies. Within the first six months volunteers will be expected to complete approximately 180 hours of training in basic firefighting and first aid. Beyond that time, we require attendance at nine 3-hour Monday night drills per year. As a volunteer with Fire District #6 you will be expected to stay physically fit in order to perform demanding tasks.
During the three month probation process, new volunteers will respond to fire and EMS alarms along with the other members of the response team. This enables you to get the first-hand experience and put your skills to work immediately. In addition, District members can maintain their skills retention through the use of the District Training Center which includes live-fire and other fire service training props. Volunteer Responders work from Station 64 and our Headquarters Station 61.
