Support Services Volunteers Needed…

This is a great opportunity, especially for those 50 or older with free time, to engage with a very dynamic (emphasis added!) team.

Support Services members fill several important roles in the fire service.  This team of volunteers may either respond from home or from the station as part of an on-duty crew. They are dispatched and respond with the Incident Support Unit (ISU6) to fill breathing air bottles, provide hydration and rehabilitation for firefighters, or otherwise support the incident. Tender operators provide mobile water supply for major structure or wildland fires, including state wildland fire mobilizations.

Volunteer Firefighter/EMT Responders:

Our Response Program

Volunteer Responders are scheduled to perform under the supervision of the on-duty Captain or Lieutenant. Volunteer Responders are issued Fire Station wear and all the required PPE to perform their duties and responsibilities.

Being a volunteer requires a commitment of your time to train and to serve on emergencies. Within the first six months volunteers will be expected to complete approximately 180 hours of training in basic fire fighting and first aid. Beyond that time, we require members to obtain minimum training hours per month and provide response coverage to the district according to the volunteer’s available hours and district policy. As a volunteer with Fire District #6 you will be expected to stay physically fit in order to perform demanding tasks.

During the 12-month probation process, new volunteers will respond to fire and EMS alarms along with the other members of the response team. This enables you to get the first-hand experience and put your skills to work immediately. After six months, volunteers have the option to attend a three-month EMT course offered through Thurston County Medic One or begin the Driver/Operator Training.

Becoming a Volunteer with Fire District #6 responders have the opportunity to achieve additional certification such as:

  1. IFSAC Accredited Recruit Academy for Firefighter I
